0005 | Forkability and (De)coupling LMS and OER

What’s in this episode?

David Wiley is known for coining the 5R permissions of Open Educational Resources (OER). Not so well known is his ALMS framework that defines the openness of learning material from a technical perspective.

Thus, in this episode I want to take a look at the ALMS framework and the concept of forkability of OER. In my view this can be implemented very well with using Markdown and Static Site Generators like GitBook or Hugo together with GitLab or GitHub.

Furthermore, the usage of OER in a campus context often brings up the question if it is necessary to hide an OER away behind the walls of an LMS. I think there are ways of decoupling the two of them so that OER stay free in the wild open web.
